Why Have Elders In The Church? – A church Elder is a man who has been publicly recognised as having the right, responsibility and qualifications to perform the biblical function as an Elder for the benefit of the local congregation. But why is a church to have elders? Well the main reason a church should have Elders is because the New Testament says that it should.
In letters, Paul is clear on the point every New Testament church should have elders, men who “direct the affairs of the church” (1 Timothy 5:17-18).
