James 3v5-12

Taming The Tongue

James says the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness, and that no human being can tame it. Yet the same mouth blesses God and curses people made in his likeness. In James 3:5b–12 we learn that the tongue does not create the problem, it reveals it. Like a spring or a fig tree, what comes out shows what is within. We cannot sweeten the spring ourselves, and trimming the fruit will not change the tree. Christ bore the curse our words deserve, gives a new heart by his Spirit, and brings our tongues under his lordship.
