Can that faith save you?
What kind of faith actually saves? In this passage, James confronts a faith that talks but never acts, a profession with no life behind it, and asks bluntly whether it can save anyone. The answer is no. A faith that produces no fruit is not weak or immature, James calls it dead. Even demons hold correct theology, yet they are not saved, because knowledge alone was never enough.
This sermon works through James’s argument carefully: we are justified by faith alone, but the faith that justifies is never alone. Works do not earn acceptance with God, they reveal a heart that has already been made alive by him. The message closes where the whole letter closes, at the cross, where Christ’s finished obedience, not our own, is the only ground on which any sinner can stand.
