The Burial of Christ
This final message from John 19 explores the often-overlooked burial of Christ as an essential part of His saving work. Far from being a mere transition between the cross and the resurrection, Christ’s burial marks the completion of His humiliation under the law, the fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy, and the quiet vindication of His perfect righteousness. Through Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, we see fearful disciples drawn into costly, public devotion by a crucified Saviour. In the rich man’s tomb, Isaiah’s prophecy is precisely fulfilled, the curse of death is fully entered, and the grave itself is claimed by Christ. Drawing on Acts 2, the message shows why Christ’s body did not see corruption and why that preservation is vital to the integrity of the gospel. The sermon closes with pastoral assurance. Because Christ was truly buried and preserved, the grave is no longer a place of judgment for believers, but a place of rest, awaiting resurrection and glory.
