The I Am Who Was Arrested
In this message from John 18:3–9, we behold the divine majesty of Christ in the face of human hostility. As the Second Adam, Jesus enters the garden not in weakness, but in sovereign obedience, stepping forward to fulfill the eternal Covenant of Redemption. When He declares “I am,” the armed crowd falls to the ground—revealing His deity and control. Yet this same Christ commands the release of His disciples, enacting His priestly care and particular love for those given to Him by the Father.
This moment in Gethsemane is not the beginning of defeat, but the visible unfolding of our redemption. Christ’s arrest secures our freedom, and His unwavering obedience guarantees the eternal safety of His people.
